Lionfish in Corals
Pterois Miles
The graceful Lionfish is from the same family as the scorpion. It also has the spine on its dorsal fin. The pectorals and ventral fins are well developed and these fish can very often be seen hovering close to the reef in groups.
Interesting fact: Some lionfish has been spotted in...Bermuda! Yes, lionfish in the Atlantic ocean only few miles from the USA coast. It would seems that ships coming from western Africa that travel light are filling there ballast with sea water, picking all kind of zooplankton that they are releasing on the other side of the Atlantic, making it possible for fertilised eggs from the Indian Ocean to hatch on the western side of the Atlantic. Experts are worried that if the lionfish reproduce on this side of the world, they may have no predators and proliferate to the extend of upsetting the delicate balance of the Bermudian coral reef.
