Octopus Siphon
The siphon, clearly visible on this photo has three functions. It pumps water through the gill system to enable the Octopus to breath. It is used for movement as the Octopus pumps his way through the water rather than swimming. And finally, by spurting a cloud of ink, it is used in defence when the Octopus flies away to evade predation.
