Shrinagar is the Northenest large city in India. It is also the capital of Cachemir and is the backbone of the dispute between one of the most disputed state in India since the partition of the Indian sub-continent into India and Pakistan. 

Located at the foot of the Himalaya chain with a border with China, this Indian state is one of the most beautiful one.

Shrinagar has a lake on which you can find house boats, a large part of them doubling as floating hotel. It use to be a very tranquil place to spend some time back in 1980.

Since then, political unrest and a permanent state of readiness to war closed this part of the country to travelers and tourists. The only boat that can be seen on the lake are the military patrol boat... So sad.
