Thailand

I was 18 years old and wanted to travel and make photographs. That much I knew. Back from a short trip to Western Africa, I was still testing my footing. I dreamed of Asia since I was a little boy, reading the adventure of Marco Polo in China, between 2 episodes of 'the Adventures of the Captain Jaques Cousteau' on the black and white TV.

Thailand was my first port of call in Asia and I instantly fell in love with the country. I was to stop by Thailand several times over the following years - somehow  it always felt a bit like home. Funnily, I didn't make that many photographs there. It seems to have been a resting place, lodged between intense photographic activity in China and India. The following photographs are the first I made in Asia, paving the way for the years to come.
